From Life House, South of Fifth in Miami to Pillows Maurits at the Park in Amsterdam, we love discovering newly-opened hotels with a designer angle. Down in New Zealand’s capital, Naumi Hotels has recently opened the doors of Naumi Wellington, a boldly coloured property filled with whimsy and delight.
Marking the seventh property from Singapore-based Naumi Hotels, Naumi Wellington has recently opened to the public in the heart of the capital. With design overseen by Material Creative, the trendy Cuba Street property is home to 62 generously proportioned guestrooms and is a sister property to Naumi Studio Wellington which is located just next door.
“We love the spirit of Wellington – its grit, street art, galleries, cafés, fashion, cocktails, and culture. The opening of Naumi Wellington gives guests a brand-new boutique experience in the world’s coolest little capital. I am very excited about this new addition to the Naumi portfolio of hotels where we invite guests to experience the whimsical world of Naumi,” says Gaurang Jhunjhnuwala, CEO of Naumi Hotels.
Reflecting the very essence of the contemporary hospitality brand, the hotel is decked out in rich, bright jewel tones alongside bold natural hues taken from Wellington’s landscape, such as avocado green, rust red, and turmeric.
Fittings in the rooms have been custom-made by makers both local and international, including Made of Tomorrow mirrors and bedside lights by Swedish based Ovature Studios. Local artist Andi Regan has also created sustainably designed kina (sea urchins) hand-crafted from cable ties and seen in a plethora of colours for the property. We also love the fact that the mini bars are stocked with some of the coolest kiwi brands.
Naumi Wellington shares dining options with its sister property through Lola Rouge, which serves a South-East Asian menu made from locally sourced ingredients by Executive Chef Kiran Ghate and team.
Drinks can be enjoyed at Lola Rouge Bar where the interiors reflect a cabinet of curiosities and guests are welcomed to enjoy a range of wines, beers, and cocktails under the dim lights of luxury lamps.
The Parlour is where you will want to head for special occasion high teas or cocktails with floral sculptures from renowned New Zealand artist, Judy Darragh adorning the green walls.
