The Prince Akatoki London review

Akatoki is an ancient Japanese word meaning dawn or sunrise and the property aims to embody the feeling you get when you wake up feeling truly rejuvenated. Nestled away on a quiet street just a stone’s throw away from bustling Oxford Street, The Prince Akatoki London offers guests a calm and tranquil stay in the English capital. Home to 82 rooms and suites the hotel finds its home in a row of former Georgian townhouses.

The rooms and suites

Interior of Executive Room

I was staying in the lovely Dusk Suite, a huge suite decked out in natural light wood with a an extremely comfortable bed set underneath a lovely screen print of a Japanese mountain. Small touches like the ceramic tea set and tea selection pay homage to Japan, and I thought the addition of a selection of Yukata (traditional robes) in different colours, along with instructions on how to wear them, was a nice touch.

However, it’s the bathroom that steals the show here. The Toto Washlet toilet is touchless and offers a warm seat for the chilly December temperatures, plus the addition of a separate bidet feels very luxe.

I used the wonderfully oversized bathtub no less than three times across the weekend and I appreciated the bath salts as much as the waterproof TV. Massive towels, Malin + Goetz toiletries, fluffy robes, and even fluffier slippers make this the perfect place for some pampering.

Dining

Tokii

Breakfast is served at Tokii and offers both a small buffet featuring pastries, charcuterie, fresh fruit, and cheeses and an a-la-carte selection. The Akatoki Breakfast was definitely a highlight and took me back to my time spent in Japan where I always adored breakfast time. Pickled vegetables, grilled salmon, tamago, egg tofu, miso soup, and steamed rice was the perfect way to fuel up for a day of exploring the nearby Serpentine Galleries and shopping my way through Marylebone.

At night, the restaurant transforms into a sleek Japanese restaurant serving a selection of sushi, sashimi, hot, and cold dishes, along with a range of unique cocktails and mocktails, many crafted from unique Japanese ingredients.

Down the hall,  Malt Lounge and Bar offers a sleek getaway and the is the ideal spot for either a pre-drink or nightcap. I asked the bartender for a refreshing mocktail, and his creation was top-notch.

Wellness

On the lower level of the hotel, the gym is small yet perfectly formed. I did a couple of classes on the Peloton bike which I really enjoyed and there were also a selection of cardio machines, free weights, and mats for stretching. A fridge of cool towels was a lovely addition to the space. In every room, a yoga mat can also be found for self-guided early morning stretching or late-night relaxation.
