Alvear Palace Hotel will up your expectations around the idea of luxury. From fresh coffee served by white-gloved butlers, to drinks at the city’s best rooftop bar, this is where to see and be seen in Buenos Aires.

This grand hotel combines exceptional architecture with modern amenities in Louis XV and Louis XVI style. Rooms are lavishly designed with crystal chandeliers, wood panelling and gilded furniture, while Egyptian cotton sheets, and whirlpool baths also come as standard.

Elsewhere, the hotel manages to pack in a spectacular pool, spa, solariums, ludic pool and hydromassage circuit. More importantly however, are the six different restaurants and bars. Our pick of the best? Old world L’Orangerie, for afternoon tea, Argentinian classics at the Alvear Grill, and sushi on the terrace at Alvear Sushi Bar

2. Hub Porteño

Hub Porteño may be smaller than other hotels on this list, but it packs in as much luxury charm as any of its neighbours. Beyond the exterior of this slightly unassuming apartment building are glistening marble interiors and sparkling chandeliers, combined with warm lighting and fun, contemporary furniture. Within the 11 rooms, dark wooden floors, plush headboards and gilded mirrors adorn the space, alongside whirlpool tubs, coffee machines and marble bathrooms with personal dressing tables.

Since the hotel doesn’t have the space for extra amenities, they’ve artfully turned this into a strength, offering advanced, personalised bookings of local experiences like Argentinian polo matches or a private box at the theatre. On top of this, they squeeze in a small spa, complete with sauna and massage rooms. Treat yourself to a drink at their tranquil rooftop bar, one of the best places to hide from the world while enjoying amazing city views.

Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires

A brand synonymous with refined luxury, Four Seasons Buenos Aires in the exclusive La Recoleta neighbourhood promises their ever-perfect design, hospitality, and style with a dash of Argentinian flair.

Set in a beautifully restored 20th Century mansion, the hotel’s interiors are contrastingly contemporary with edgy leather furniture, bright rugs and warm lighting. Inside the rooms, which range from the simple E-Lounge to Mansion View Rooms and a few select suites, expect city views, a private bar, and a large white marble bathroom.

An escape from the city heat awaits at the pool or spa, which offers uniquely Latin American treatments such as a massage to the sound of tango music. Dining options are equally elite, whether you secure a table at Elena, which was named one of South America’s 50 best restaurants, or opt for a more casual affair at their outdoor barbecue, Nuestro Secreto

4. Hotel Club Francés

Hotel Club Francés

Another long-standing La Recoleta resident, Hotel Club Francés takes its name from the historic French Club of Buenos Aires, which began in 1866 and was frequented by the likes of Edward VIII and Georges Clemenceau. House inside a French-style mansion building with such a rich origin story, the lavish interiors are exactly what you’d expect, with elegant epoque furniture, gilded details, and patterned wallpaper.

There are just 28 rooms, including Superior Rooms and Junior, Executive, and Luxury Suites. All include king-sized beds and flat screen TVs, while suites have saunas, Jacuzzis, or a private balcony.

There’s no spa here, although there is a gym, sauna, and Finnish shower, but the hotel’s old-world charm will lead you to spend all of your time in the beautiful mahogany bar, where you may be enjoying your cocktail next to a politician or celebrity. At the restaurant, beautifully presented local and international cuisine are served at antique tables, accompanied by a range of Argentinian wines.

5. Faena Hotel Buenos Aires

Faena Hotel

The only word to describe Faena Hotel is luxury. Housed in a former storage mill, the hotel’s stunning design is swathed in marble, leather and plenty of red, from the heavy velvet curtains to the cherry-coloured deck chairs outside. The rooms continue the opulent theme, with cloud-like white and gold beds, comfy armchairs and a bouquet of red flowers.

Big windows with city views let light in, while the bathrooms have his-and-hers sinks and rain showers.

It’s the amenities that truly stand Faena apart however, whether you do a few laps of the pool (which also has its own fountain) before heading to the spa, enjoy a drink and live music at the bar, or stay up late for a tango show at their onsite cabaret club – you can even take lessons in the yoga studio. There are two restaurants, the award-winning Italpast and the more casual El Mercado, but the real highlight is La Cava, a renowned, hidden cellar and tasting room home to over 4,000 bottles of rare wine.

6. BE Jardin Escondido By Coppola

BE Jardin Escondido By Coppola

BE Jardin Escondido sits at the centre of Buenos Aires’ most buzzing neighbourhoods, Palermo, filled with the best shops, dining, and bars the city has to offer. The ‘By Coppola’ refers unsurprisingly to this being the former home to renowned movie mogul and director Francis Ford Coppola, so expect to feel like you’re in a film while staying here. The hotel’s interiors are homely and deeply thought out, featuring Angentinian artwork and textiles, wooden furniture and shelves laden with books.

It still feels like a home, with the large living room, library-slash-dining area, leafy patio and terrace to enjoy alone or with friends. There are just seven rooms, four with balconies and two ground-floor suites decked out in local handicrafts, vanity kits, and high-end toiletries. There’s no restaurant here, although in the surrounding district of Palermo Soho you’ll be inundated with choice, but breakfast is served – continental, with plenty of fresh fruit, eggs and juices.

7. Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt

Palacio Duhau

Stepping into Palacio Duhau is like stepping back in time, exactly what you’d expect from a luxury neo-classical palace in Buenos Aires. Dripping in chandeliers, strong columns and intricately carved wooden furniture, the interiors rival the hotel’s facade, which looks like the mansion it once was, and has lush manicured gardens lined with cascading staircases and an outdoor dining area. The rooms are far more refined and minimalist, pushing the focus onto the amenities: marble bathrooms, Nespresso machines, hand-delivered newspapers and a personal butler in the palace rooms.

You won’t be spending much time there though, what with Buenos Aires’ biggest spa just down the hall, plus a huge swimming pool, gym and to reward yourself after exercise, a patisserie. Food-wise guests are spoilt for choice. A leisurely vegetarian lunch at Gioia Botanical, elegant afternoon tea on the terrace or premium steaks at Duhau Restaurant, which even has its own cheese cellar.

7. Palladio Hotel Buenos Aires – MGallery

Sleek, stylish and with plenty of amenities, Palladio Hotel is part of the MGallery brand, also located in La Recoleta (can you tell this is the neighbourhood to be in?). Its gorgeous interiors feature high ceilings, gold tones, and wood panelling in the public spaces, which are in contrast to the chic 113 rooms and suites. Each one is designed in a modern style with pared down colours, and comes with features like a private balcony, city views and a spacious marble bathroom.

The sparkling outdoor pool and 11th floor spa, complete with sauna, hammam, and solarium are the best places to unwind, while the downstairs wine bar gets equally busy in the evenings. Negresco, the hotel’s restaurant, is open to both guests and the public, and serves a delicious array of Mediterranean cuisine.
