Kempinski is well-known for its outstanding luxe properties, and its Soma Bay hotel raises the bar even higher. The sprawling resort (main image) is surrounded by the Red Sea on three sides and is designed so you’ll never need to leave. It contains a professional dive centre, a championship golf course, a spa, and multiple bars and restaurants.
The rooms and suites are elegantly designed in white and wood, with Arabic touches like striking archways and patterned rugs. All have large beds, flat-screen TVs, and luxurious bathrooms, while many have sea views, private balconies, and access to the hotel’s Laguna Club.
For relaxation, Thalasso spa, which isn’t part of the hotel but is available for use by guests, is reportedly one of the best in Egypt, with more than 7,500 sq-m of pools and treatment rooms. There’s a seawater pool, aquatonic pool, and hydrotherapy, and the menu includes seaweed wraps and underwater massages.
Afterwards, choose from the six bars and restaurants for your evening meal – our picks are Bamboo Shoot for East Asian dishes, The View for international cuisine overlooking the resort, and Sultan Bar for a nightcap.

The beautiful rooms and suites all come with queen beds and a fun, simple design aesthetic featuring bright artwork and quirky furniture, plus TVs, spacious bathrooms, and either a balcony or sea view.
You’ll have direct access to the beach at Hurghada Marina, where you can unwind under a palm-frond umbrella or paddle in the clear waters, but the hotel also has a large pool and activities such as kayaking and diving. There are two restaurants which double as bars: Olie’s, which serves an international a la carte menu, and our favourite, Mino’s, an Italian bistro on the roof with breathtaking sea vistas.

Rixos hotels always promise a luxury experience and their Magawish Suites & Villas, perched right on the beach overlooking impossibly blue waters, is one of their most impressive properties. It’s one of the loveliest all-inclusive hotels in the area, with its own surf and diving club to take advantage of the beautiful Red Sea.
The amenities on offer are astounding: ten bars, five restaurants, a kids club, and a spa, plus multiple pools. Surrounded by some of the area’s best shopping, restaurants, and bars, and just a stone’s throw from the beach, Desert Rose Resort is a good choice for anyone keen on an all-inclusive, fun-filled holiday. Rooms are elegantly designed in white and navy blue, although we really love the beachfront villas, which have high ceilings, atriums, three bedrooms, living and dining areas, a kitchen, a terrace, and private gardens for the ultimate secluded escape.
During the day, there’s a house reef nearby, which you can explore through their dive centre or simply chill out at the beach. Alternatively, on the grounds, you can try everything from archery to tennis, and there’s a pool, spa, fitness classes, and a meditation terrace, or you can organise local experiences like belly dancing and archaeological visits.
The five restaurants offer buffets, Italian, seafood, Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisine before stopping by one of the ten bars to finish the evening or The Dance Club for partying the night away.

We haven’t yet come across an Oberoi we didn’t love; the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh is a resplendent property voted one of the best in the world on numerous occasions. The hotel is teeming with stunning Arabian designs, such as high domed ceilings, columns, lanterns and eight-pointed stars, which translate beautifully into the spacious suites.
The rooms are plush and cosy, with traditional furnishings and ocean views. The most luxe are the Grand Suites with Private Pools, which have a fun striped exterior, a pop of orange on the deck chairs, and their own pool, plus a big marble bathtub with Oberoi toiletries.
The experiences at the Oberoi blow most others out of the water, no pun intended. You can go scuba-diving, enjoy a private dinner or boat cruise, go camel riding, on a desert safari, wine tasting or star-gazing, to name just a few.
Meanwhile, the restaurants are lavishly designed, from international cuisine at The Restaurant, adorned with dozens of dimly-lit archways, to spectacular dining overlooking the water at The Pergola, followed by a Cuban cigar at The Bar.
