I fly out of Gatwick about a dozen times every year, and am usually disappointed with the lounges. But this time, before flying with Norse to LA, I headed to My Lounge in Gatwick South and was pleasantly surprised with the offerings. Read on to find out what makes this lounge superior.

We review My Lounge Gatwick South

My spot had views of the tarmac and easily accessible plug sockets for charging my devices

First of all, the design of this space feels modern and welcoming. They’ve cleverly designed it, so there are little nooks and corners for smaller parties and larger tables with colourful chairs for big groups. I chose a single chair facing the tarmac to enjoy a spot of pre-flight plane-watching.

The food and drinks

My Lounge Gatwick South review breakfast
Enjoy a hearty breakfast with plenty for vegans and vegetarians

I was there in the morning, and for breakfast they had a selection of hot dishes including eggs, hash browns, beans, and bacon. They also have cereals, fresh fruit, and a pancake machine with different syrups, along with a selection of pastries. This was a really impressive and surprisingly tasty spread. The real test, though, will be in what they serve at lunch and dinner, so I will need to update this post after visiting again.

My Lounge Gatwick South review drinks
Both non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks await

Coffee comes from machines with a selection of syrups on offer, including caramel and pumpkin spice. Drinks are self-service and include wines, beers, spirits and some non alcoholic spirits along with sodas and juices. As someone who doesn’t drink pre-flight, I enjoyed trying the make-your-own-mocktail that they had the instructions for. A blend of mango juice, fresh lime, and soda, the concoction tasted wonderful and was an interactive way to bring some fun to the lounge.

What else is there?

Grab some air on the outdoor terrace

You’ll find plug and USB sockets dotted around the lounge, but not every seat, so if you need to charge up, be sure to factor this into how you choose your spot.

There are a few TVs around the space playing different sports and news channels, and a few screens that show boarding gates and times. In one of the breakout nooks, there were some arcade games and a foosball table, which were keeping some younger visitors entertained.

There are numerous space configurations for different-sized parties

Another plus of this lounge is the outdoor terrace, where you can enjoy some sunshine on a nice day or get some fresh air between flights. Smoking is also permitted here.

There are four unisex toilets, which were impeccably clean when I visited. The addition of Rituals handwash and lotion is a plus, but the lounge does not offer any showers.

I enjoyed my mocktail, made by me

But one of the biggest pluses was that the lounge was not too full and also not too loud, which is often the problem. Of course, this may have just been the day and time that I visited, but there were plenty of people getting work done and no big stag or hen groups getting their party started.

Final thoughts

After living a thoroughly spoilt existence in Asia for 15 years, where even the basic lounges are exceptional, I think I’ve finally found my regular Gatwick lounge. Now we just need to see what’s on the menu at dinner time.
