Review of Inhabit, Queen’s Gardens

If it’s a central London location you’re looking for, Inhabit, Queens Gardens should definitely be on your radar. Just a five-minute-walk away from Paddington Station, the hotel is an excellent choice for anyone looking to explore the highlights of the city by day and to retreat into relaxation by night.

Sitting inside a Grade II-listed, 19th-century Victorian townhouse, typical for the area, you’d only recognise this quiet residence is even a hotel if you were really looking for it. Unassuming as the exterior may be, as you step inside, you’re immediately struck by a sense of calm skillfully designed through the layout and furnishings.

For the design of the hotel, Inhabit enlisted a group of experts, including interior designer Caitlin Henderson, Holland Harvey Architects, design agency Culture A, and There’s Light lighting design studio. The result is a property that feels at once alive yet calmly so and a hotel that prioritises sustainability.

The three pillars of the Inhabit brand are: community, hospitality, and wellness and we encounter the personification of these ideas throughout our stay. For example, the lobby has plenty of seating, books, and art pieces and is the perfect space to catch up on work or to make new friends. There are also water refilling stations across the hotel to eliminate single-use plastic.

The room

We stayed in the hotel’s Queen Suite, an elegant home complete with a freestanding tub, oversized bed, and an array of excellent books, including a lovely tome suggesting self-guided walking tours across the city and a copy of ‘Sleepily Ever After: Bedtime Stories for Grown Ups’.

Wellness touches a little differently here to your average hotel here, with an aromatherapy oil diffuser in each room and a selection of scents for you to choose from. The minibar is stocked by Social Supermarket, whose snacks and drinks are all made by small social enterprises. Who Gives a Crap toilet paper is a further example of the brand’s commitment to sustainability.

But what we were most excited about were our wellness packs, part of the Journeys that we’d booked in advance. Looking to even my life out a little, I opted for the Balance Journey, while my plus one opted for the Relax option.

The peak part of the Journeys is undoubtedly the spa sessions, which I’ll get to later, but they’ve been designed to start from the moment you enter the room, thanks to the wellness packs filled with tea, infusion shots, and bath oils by Gaia, all matching the characteristics of your chosen journey.

Inhale at Inhabit

Head to the subterranean level of the hotel and you’ll discover Inhale at Inhabit, the wellness centre that incorporates treatment rooms, yoga studio, gym, and even an Infrared Sauna.

The treatment rooms invite calm and restoration

My Balancing Journey treatment centred around a hot stone massage followed by a Jade facial. The massage was completely luxurious and I could tell that the therapist was a seasoned professional.

We were advised during check-in that guests need to book the gym in advance as it’s relatively intimate. I did this and was excited to try the space. Small in size, it packs a punch thanks to the Peloton bike and extensive weight selection.

A number of fitness sessions including yoga and pilates can be booked at reception, though unfortunately none were scheduled for the weekend we were staying.

I was hoping to get into the Infrared Sauna, but again this needs to be booked in advance and I couldn’t find a time for my schedule. If you’re keen to get a specific time for either the gym or the sauna, I’d email in advance of check-in to avoid disappointment.

The food

We had dinner at Yeotown, the onsite restaurant, and were delighted by the plant-forward menu. The summer rolls and the sea bass being the standouts. Don’t forget to try some of the Conscious Cocktails and Mindful Mocktails too.

Returning for breakfast, I loved my poached eggs, which I washed down with a delicious Matcha Mushroom latte for good measure.

The verdict

All-in-all, our weekend at Inhabit, Queen’s Gardens left us feeling a whole lot more relaxed and re-energised. It’s definitely a great spot for anyone needing to stay near Paddington and a wonderful base for exploring the city.
