Oh, yes! We love us a great hotel in LA and we also love us some playful design from London’s Tara Bernerd & Partners, so when the two come together, it can only be a thing of beauty, right? The first California property for the design-led Hyatt brand, Thompson Hollywood has opened its doors, and we can’t wait to get inside and experience it all.

Thompson Hollywood opens in LA

Final Selects of Thompson Hotel in LA

Sitting just north of Sunset on Wilcox Avenue, the newly-opened Thompson Hollywood is designed with inspiration from West Coast Modernism (think bold and confident lines and shapes) with just the right amount of old school Hollywood glam.

“Thompson Hollywood is set to become the new go-to destination in the heart of Los Angeles. Through the interplay of industrial finishes with layers of rich texture, mid-century furniture, and a refined selection of artwork, we have sought to imbue a dynamic, bold, yet welcoming atmosphere into the design,” explains Tara Bernerd, Founder of Tara Bernerd & Partners.

Communal spaces and places

The lobby oozes a home-away-from-home vibe thanks to the trellis-covered entrance way and mid-toned timber cladding offset by pale terrazzo floors with brass inlays. Furniture sits on rugs imagined by the designers, a warm juxtaposition to other industrial elements.

Enjoy a drink (or two) at the Lobby Bar

At the Lobby Lounge & Bar, guests are welcomed with a palette of rich tobacco with a smidge of petrol blue lacquer and warm wood panelled walls. Here, visitors can enjoy a drink at the communal table or grab themselves a bespoke cocktail at the bar.

A fitness centre, pool deck, and meeting facilities are all on-hand to make your stay even better, plus the hotel is pet-friendly if you’re thinking of checking in with your dog.

Sleepyheads

Thompson Hollywood guestroom
The team at Tara Bernerd has created light, airy spaces with loads of personality at Thompson Hollywood

Home to 190 guest rooms and 16 suites across 11 floors, Thompson Hollywood promises a restful escape with its sanctuary-like offerings. Contemporary art, walnut wood floors, and lots of greenery are the order of the day in these spaces, with custom-designed mini-bars and elegant light fixtures adding to the charm. Overall, these light and airy spaces look like exactly the type of place we’d like to rest up before heading for a night on the town, and we can’t wait to visit.
