From Cheval Blanc in Paris to Thompson Hollywood in LA and the new Inhabit Queen’s Gardens in London, the array of new hotels opening their doors across the globe is super exciting. And one hot property to keep an eye out for in Q1 of 2022 is ON Residence, nestled in the heart of Thessaloniki. Promising a redefined luxury offering with unobstructed views of Thermaikos Bay, we can’t wait to get inside this reinvented heritage hotel.

ON Residence set to launch in Thessaloniki

A partnership between one of Greece’s most established hospitality firms TOR Hotel Group and Grivalia Hospitality, ON Residence has been designed to delight and inspire guests from its prime location in the centre of Thessaloniki.

Home to 60 lavishly designed rooms and suites, restaurant, cocktail bar, modern gym, and a specially designed mezzanine ideal for business meetings and events, the seafront property is an homage to a Grand Dame that was once at the heart of the hospitality industry in the city.

On Residence
Rooms blend contemporary elements with classic Art Deco style

In a building originally built in 1926 with elements of Belle Époque and neoclassicism, the restoration process was undertaken by architects Diversity Group and Dimitris Thomopoulos. Interiors were completed by French decorator Fabienne Spahn, who wanted to give a renewed classic Art Deco style to the project.

In the rooms, classic design details sit elegantly next to natural tones and touches of pale pink and green. Bold motifs can be found on the carpets while luxe amenities such as Marshall speakers and Nespresso machines complete the inviting interiors.

Reinventing a classic

Once at the heart of the dining scene for jet-set society, Olympos Naoussa was a long-standing favourite for celebrities and politicians alike until its closure in the mid 90s. But the restaurant is set to soar again as it reopens in a new era.

Olympos Naoussa comes back to life

With a kitchen helmed by executive chef Dimitris Tassioulas, part of a new generation of chefs hailing from Northern Greece, the restaurant will serve up cuisine inspired from the Mediterranean basin and includes an evergreen courtyard for a completely unique experience.

For Konstantinos Tornivoukas, CEO of TOR Hotel Group, ON Residence is a passion project for both his family and for Thessaloniki itself. “After the violent shutdown of the Mediterranée Hotel by the catastrophic earthquake in 1978, my dream has always been to be able to return to the city’s seafront with a project that would have the dynamics of the legendary hotel founded by my grandfather in 1925. When the property that housed Olympos Naoussa, which was connected to the Mediterranée due to their close proximity and similar history, went up for auction I considered this more than a business opportunity. It was also an act of gratitude from our family towards our beloved city to restore this historic restaurant,” he explains.
