We review the Singapore EDITION, a haven of calm amidst urban energy
Blurring the boundaries between modern luxury and natural serenity.
Blurring the boundaries between modern luxury and natural serenity.
The Singapore EDITION makes an instant impression, standing as a striking addition to the city’s skyline. Nestled just beyond the buzz of Orchard Road, the sleek silhouette of the group’s first foray into Asia immediately catches the eye. Designed by the renowned Safdie Architects, led by Moshe Safdie, in collaboration with local studio DP Architects, the building’s exterior—a shimmering blend of bronze and glass—promises something extraordinary. Inside, nature reclaims its place, crafting a lush and tranquil retreat within the bustling cityscape.
While this stay was complimentary, all thoughts and opinions are our own.
Stepping into the expansive marble lobby at the Singapore EDITION feels like entering another world. The minimalist design, accented by retro floor lanterns and vibrant greenery spilling from oversized vases, is both understated and inviting. Warm smiles from the staff instantly set the tone for the stay.
As I make my way to the elevators, I pause to take in the solarium-like surroundings. Dramatic glass walls invite streams of natural light, while clusters of greenery float overhead like suspended gardens. The vines weaving along the walls guide my gaze outside to the inner garden—a lush escape at the heart of the hotel. From this vantage point, I glimpse the swimming pool connecting the two buildings. A circular opening at its centre adds a whimsical touch, evoking a looking glass to another world.
My Garden King room is a study in serene minimalism. The polished cream tones envelop me in a sense of calm, making it the perfect cocoon for unwinding. As I wake in the morning, the blackout curtains draw back to reveal the vibrant greenery of the inner garden. The sight alone feels like a gentle nudge to embrace the day ahead.
The bath area becomes a small retreat of its own. In the evening, I sink into the deep tub for a soothing soak, letting the day melt away. In the mornings, I opt for a bracing cold shower, my own version of an espresso shot. Every detail, from the plush towels to the rainfall shower head, feels curated for comfort, and it’s here that I truly take my time, indulging in moments of uninterrupted stillness.
The rooftop pool feels like a hidden gem in the city. Sunbeds are thoughtfully arranged around the outside, some partially submerged for a refreshing lounge experience. Gentle house music sets a relaxed tone as I sip a sunset drink and soak in panoramic views of Singapore. It’s the ideal spot to unwind with friends or simply let the world fade away.
Dining at FYSH is a feast for the senses, beginning with the striking interiors. Anchoring the space is an open show kitchen, framed by a bar clad in shimmering green marble—a nod to the ocean’s hues. Soft jade banquettes line the dining room, their plush velvet upholstery creating an intimate yet sophisticated setting. The tables, crafted from Calacatta white marble, catch the warm glow of carefully placed pendant lights, while contemporary art pieces punctuate the space, adding a touch of whimsy to the refined aesthetic.
The menu, led by multi-award-winning Australian chef Josh Niland, is as inventive as the design. Niland’s sustainable philosophy ensures that at least 95% of each fish is utilised. Even the martini surprises me with its infusion of cod fat wash—a bold and brilliant touch.
The culinary experience is a delightful fusion of South Asian influences and inventive techniques. The swordfish curry puff and Malaysian slipper lobster with fish bone noodles, scale XO, and fragrant crab butter leave a lasting impression. The dry-aging process shines in the Mooloolaba yellowfin tuna tartare, where crispy chips made from fish eyes add texture and intrigue.
The Yuzushu parfait, adorned with meringue and a violet flower, offers a light yet indulgent conclusion to my meal. Breakfast the next morning proves equally memorable, with buttery croissants, vibrant fruit bowls, and chia puddings lining the buffet. I can’t resist adding a black truffle omelette and sourdough avocado toast with beet hummus to the spread—a feast that fuels the day.
The same evening, I stumbled upon a Halloween party hosted by the hotel in collaboration with wellness community The Daily Glow and artisanal leather brand Mathilde. It’s a beautiful surprise to see the space buzzing with energy, as local businesses take centre stage. Laughter and DJ beats echo through the Lobby Bar, where the backlit pink bar showcases an impressive array of spirits. Nearby, the rose Calacatta marble pool table becomes a hub of activity, the sound of clinking balls blending seamlessly with the lively chatter.
Downstairs, the Punch Room offers a quieter, moodier experience. Everything here is drenched in Yves Klein-inspired ultramarine blue, from the lighting to the furnishings. And the punches? These aren’t the sugary concoctions of my youth. These clarified creations are infused with Southeast Asian spices and paired with local legends, from the mythical Merlion to tales of fishermen and sailors. It’s storytelling in a glass, each sip layered with history and flavor.
After enjoying the hotel’s culinary indulgences, I make my way to the gym to balance it all out. The state-of-the-art equipment allows for a challenging session that includes both endurance training on the treadmill and strength exercises. Feeling invigorated, I head to the spa area, eager to unwind.
The wellness facilities are nothing short of impressive. The sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, and multi-jet shower provide ample ways to relax after a workout. The ice fountain, a unique feature, offers a refreshing contrast therapy, leaving me both energised and revitalised. Next door, the spa offers bespoke treatments, and though I didn’t book one this time, the serene atmosphere tempts me to return.
As I explore the vibrant city of Singapore, I find myself longing for the tranquillity of the hotel. Returning to the hotel feels like stepping into a cocoon—a place where the noise and responsibilities of daily life fade away. The Singapore EDITION is a true sanctuary, offering a perfect balance of design, nature, and personal connection.
