Already visited Croatia, Malta, or Montenegro and looking for your next holiday? Nestled on a secluded beach dotted with Tamarisk trees, NUMO Ierapetra is an adults-only resort offering a unique stay in Crete for modern travellers.

While this stay was complimentary, all thoughts and opinions are our own.

NUMO Ierapetra review

Quite honestly, I’m jealous of anyone who gets to experience NUMO Ierapetra for the first time. From the delicious welcome drinks that we received in the stylish lobby to the exceptional service to seeing the wonderfully designed property with new eyes, the entire experience was divine from start to finish.

Designed by Studio LOST, 17 buildings sit low on the site, seemingly blending into the landscape. Natural, earthy finishes extend this relationship with surrounding nature even further as the spaces cascade towards the beach and create a special journey for guests upon arrival.

Though NUMO Ierapetra has over 100 rooms and suites, this resort never feels too cluttered. Thoughtful planning and design means that apart from meals and time by the pool, you feel like you have the run of the place.

The room

Relax in style

The part of the hotel that we stayed in is affectionately called The Village and was designed as sort of a traditional village square. On one side, Kafene acts as the social hub where guests gather for authentic Greek coffee as the world passes by outside. Opposite, a tiny chapel cuts a striking figure. Push the wooden door and inside you’ll discover a well of exceptional iconography and the perfect spot to steal a few moments alone.

We enjoyed time in our Junior Suite, decorated in muted tones with natural materials. From the living area, we looked out onto a wonderful desert garden with a Prickly Pear set at the heart and colourful plants surrounding it.

Old wardrobes and headboards have been upcycled and reused in a sustainable approach to furnishing the spaces. A Nespresso machine, rain shower and toiletries from local brand Olive Era can be found in the space alongside a huge and comfortable king-size bed.

All about food

Tamarisk restaurant Numo Ierepetra
Tamarisk offers guests both indoor and outdoor dining options

At Tamarisk restaurant, guests can enjoy a vast selection of local delicacies for breakfast, including pastries, cheeses, and fruit all served next to the beach to make things taste extra sweet. At night, both buffet and a la carte options are available – you can’t miss the fava beans with grilled octopus.

For a fully Cretan affair, book in for the set menu at Menoa and the team will guide you through a veritable feast of local dishes made with fresh seasonal ingredients and specialises in fine meats. Be sure to sample the local wine varieties too, the perfect way to discover the Crete wine scene.

Things to do

Numo Ierepetra open-air cinema
What a view from the cinema!

With two pools on offer, our favourite was the one next to the beach where music is played throughout the day and you may even get serenaded by a live saxophonist like we did. A few steps away, loungers line the beachfront giving easy access for swimming or jumping on a tour with the resort’s very own boat.

Be sure to check the daily happenings on the app and find out what movie is screening at the open-air cinema. We caught The Goonies under the light of the moon which was fantastic.

If it’s pampering you desire, do yourself a favour and book in at Etherea Spa. We tried the aromatherapy massage (one of the resort’s most popular) and it was absolutely blissful. Using ila products, the therapists worked out knots I didn’t even know I had and the relaxing music almost put me to sleep.

Gym bunnies will enjoy the selection of classes on offer including yoga, HIIT and stretch sessions. The gym itself is decked out in a range of cardio, weight, and TRX equipment across both indoor and outdoor zones.

If it’s a child-free holiday filled with good food and sunny days you’re after, this is the place.
