Beautifully designed hotels are kind of our thing. But what gets us even more excited? Sustainable properties that look the part. From the best eco-friendly hotels in Bali to green resorts in Sri Lanka and Thailand, there ain’t nothing sexier than accommodation that’s designed with the planet in mind. To that end, we were very excited to hear about the launch of Six Senses Ibiza. No, you won’t be overrun by EDM revellers and party people at this luxe destination. Expect exquisite design paired with world-class cuisine, and suites built into a cave.

Six Senses Ibiza opens its doors

Set in secluded Xarraca Bay on Ibiza’s northern tip, Six Senses Ibiza is the brainchild of architect and developer Jonathan Leitersdorf. Featuring 116 guestrooms and suites, the property is powered by its own renewable energy source and cites zero waste and zero single-use plastic targets, making it the Balearic Islands’ first resort and residential community to achieve sustainable certification by BREEAM. It even has a selection of suites built into caves offering sea views, oversized beds, and large terraces that lead out to the water’s edge.

“Six Senses Ibiza is a reflection of the natural vibrations and vitality of the Balearics,” Jonathan Leitersdorf explains. “By channeling the destination’s unique sense of community and celebration, we have created a truly transformative environment wherein guests are invited to meaningfully connect with nature, each other and themselves while discovering the elements that make Ibiza unlike anywhere else in the world.”

Lining the resort’s corridors and public spaces are a unique shoppable collection of works curated by Magnum Photo. Each of the eighteen gallery concepts has an individual message presenting and weaving authentic, visual storytelling into the Six Senses backdrop to inspire consciousness throughout.

Relax deeply

Locally inspired treatments are the order of the day at the Six Senses Spa, complemented with a range of multi-layered wellness workshops and bespoke skincare solutions. The Rose Bar offers a one-of-a-kind destination for impactful longevity programs, combining diagnostics with nutritional guidance and modern healing methods to optimise health and performance. The 1200sq-m space also houses a state-of-the-art fitness area, rooftop yoga platform, outdoor boxing ring, steam room, salon, and hot bath.

At the heart of the resort are the Beach Caves, with programming by composer, producer, and recording artist Tomer Biran, and supported by music industry executive Shivas Howard-Brown. Here an immersive sensory experience will be created through live music events and performances.

Guests can try cliff jumping or unwind with a selection of complimentary water activities including snorkeling, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding or underwater guided meditation. Those who want to discover more about the surrounding area can take a paddle trip to the fishermen’s huts at Cala Xuclar, shop at the local Sunday craft market in bohemian San Juan or take a boat trip to Es Vedra island.
