The list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024 was announced at a glittering awards ceremony in London on September 17th, with Capella Bangkok leapfrogging over Lake Como’s Passalacqua to claim the top spot.
Capella Bangkok opened in 2020 to soaring success. Overlooking Thailand’s majestic Chao Phraya River, it’s surrounded by lush gardens with grand dame elegance combined with the intimacy of a boutique hotel. Personal butlers cater to every guest’s needs.
Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, says: “It gives us enormous pleasure to share the list of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024 and to celebrate Capella Bangkok’s ranking as number 1. This extraordinary hotel is a rare oasis in the middle of Thailand’s bustling capital, offering world-class service while retaining the intimacy and personality of a boutique hotel – making it a worthy winner of the top prize.”
Last year’s number one, Passalacqua, dips to number two. Set in an 18th-century villa amongst spectacular terraced gardens on the shores of Italy’s Lake Como, it received an additional Carlo Alberto Best Boutique Hotel Award 2024. The towering Rosewood Hong Kong in the city’s Victoria Dockside arts and design district took number three, followed by Cheval Blanc in Paris (four) and The Upper House in Hong Kong (five).
Other notable properties in the top 50 included Claridge’s in London (11), La Mamounia in Marrakech (31), and Singita in Kruger National Park (44).
The list of winners is created by The World’s 50 Best Hotels Academy, a group of 600 anonymous leaders in the hotel industry, each selected for their expert opinion and background in the hotel scene.
Sonia Cheng, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group, was voted by the Academy as winner of the SevenRooms Icon Award, celebrating her achievements in the hotel sector over the last 16 years.
