Kappa Senses Ubud review

The architecture and design

The moment you set foot into Kappa Senses Ubud, a palpable aura of tranquillity and sophistication envelops you, permeating every corner of the property. Upon arrival, guests are gifted with a three-coloured bracelet, a cherished symbol in Balinese culture believed to bestow good fortune and shield from malevolent spirits.

Guests can enjoy the proximity to nature at the retreat

The meticulously designed landscape of the resort harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings, creating an ambience that is both calming and welcoming. Bordered by green rice terraces and opulent tropical gardens, Kappa Senses exudes natural beauty from every angle. The public pool, overlooking the rice fields, is ensconced in lush greenery, while the secluded jungle pool provides an intimate setting, perfect for honeymooners or families seeking privacy.

The architecture and interiors pay homage to the Ramayana Sanskrit, one of Hinduism’s major epics depicting the love saga of Prince Rama and his wife Sita. Wooden panels, statues, and intricately carved walls, complemented by a chic azure colour palette, seamlessly fuse traditional Balinese culture with contemporary French elegance.

The room

The accommodation offerings at Kappa Senses Ubud are nothing short of extraordinary. The resort sprawls across a generous two hectares of land, boasting 73 villas and suites. These include expansive suites and private villas with pools overlooking the rice paddies. The 11 jungle suites offer stunning views of Ubud’s towering coconut trees or the tranquil jungle pool. Deluxe suites feature a bathtub on the balcony, providing a picturesque backdrop for Instagram-worthy photos.

Our one-bedroom pool villa was a haven of tranquillity

Each room is thoughtfully designed to exude ultimate style, comfort, and relaxation, from the sumptuous linens to the carefully selected artwork gracing the walls. Its stylish wooden furniture and lighting impart a warm ambience.

During our stay, we luxuriated in one of the 1-bedroom pool villas, which proved to be extraordinarily spacious and secluded. The room was furnished with a plush king-sized bed, high-quality linens, a bathtub, and a roomy bathroom with invigorating rainfall showers. We particularly adored the innovative design of the bedroom, which incorporated the traditional Balinese mosquito net, providing both functionality and an expansive, cocoon-like atmosphere.

Eat & drink

The resort’s dining options are both diverse and delicious. The poolside restaurant and bar, Kelapa, offers casual dining with a range of mouthwatering Asian cuisines, including a delectable beef curry.

Kokokan, an elegant space, presents gourmet dining experiences with both à la carte and wine pairing menus. Kepuh, the all-day dining restaurant where breakfast is served, is nestled next to the rice paddies. The breakfast experience is a testament to the resort’s French influence, featuring freshly baked pastries, an extensive selection of cheeses, scrumptious crepes, and refreshing juices, all accompanied by impeccable French hospitality. The ambience is reminiscent of dining at a 5-star hotel in Paris, enhanced by live Balinese music that adds an exotic touch to the experience.

The hotel’s exceptional 2000m² permaculture garden champions a farm-to-table dining concept. Here, a diverse array of herbs, vegetables, fruits, microgreens, and edible flowers are cultivated organically. For families, a visit to the garden offers a delightful opportunity to interact with and feed the adorable, ever-hungry rabbits.

Other highlights

For those seeking relaxation, the property offers an array of holistic well-being offerings. The OmTara Spa, spanning over 1000m², is a sanctuary in itself. Situated at the heart of the resort, its soothing design seamlessly melds Balinese and French influences. In collaboration with the renowned French beauty brand Clarins, the facility offers a wide range of rejuvenating body treatments, along with beauty and hair services, vitality pools, a gym, hammam, and vichy shower. With seven treatment rooms, the spa is immensely popular, making advance booking highly recommended to ensure a pampering experience.

Offering breathtaking views of the expansive garden, the yoga shala provides an ideal setting to reconnect with oneself and quiet the mind.

Another highlight at the property is the swing adjacent to the main pool, offering a delightful and Instagram-worthy experience amidst the backdrop of rice terraces and the lush jungle.

In addition to its lavish on-property offerings, the hotel provides a plethora of activities and experiences, allowing guests to deeply immerse themselves in the local culture.
