We review Baba Beach Club Hua Hin, Thailand: a design-led beachfront retreat with a subtle soundtrack

Favoured by Thai royalty, Hua Hin has long offered a quieter counterpoint to the country’s island escapes. Less about full-moon parties and more about weekend retreats, it draws a predominantly domestic crowd seeking sea air without the spectacle. Just to the north, in the more low-key enclave of Cha-Am, where Baba Beach Club echoes that same sense of escape, albeit with a sharper, more stylised edge.

Setting the scene

Set on a quiet stretch of sand, Baba Beach Club feels deliberately set apart. This is a resort that embraces a lifestyle idea as much as it does traditional hospitality, positioning itself as a “music lovers hotel” wrapped in beachfront luxury.

The resort unfolds in three distinct parts. Closest to the sea is the original beachfront zone, with low-rise ocean-facing pool suites and penthouses. This area centres on a sculptural infinity pool with sun loungers. Here you’ll find the Baba Beach Bar & Restaurant, the social heart of the property.

Just behind sits a cluster of multi-bedroom pool villas, arranged around a second, longer pool. The addition of a swim-up bar and a floating inflatable play area gives this zone a more relaxed, communal energy. These villas are clearly designed for families or groups, with generous indoor-outdoor living spaces and private gated gardens.

Rising above it all is the newer Habita Oceanview tower. This is where the resort adopts a more contemporary, almost urban design language. The suites here are large, starting at 63 square metres, all with private sea-facing balconies. It also houses the spa, boutique and all-day dining restaurant, creating a self-contained hub within the resort.

The rooms

Our stay was in a Beachfront Pool Suite positioned on the second floor with uninterrupted views across the main pool and out to sea. At 73 square metres, including the terrace, it feels genuinely spacious. The layout is open and fluid, with the bedroom and bathroom visually connected through glass and clean architectural lines.

The design leans toward a restrained, contemporary Asian aesthetic. Dark wood tones, neutral fabrics and soft lighting create a calm, understated environment. It’s not a space that tries to impress through excess. Instead, it’s about balance and proportion. The bed, positioned to face the ocean, was exceptionally comfortable, making it an ideal spot to ease into the day.

In the bathroom, a freestanding tub sits against a marble feature wall, flanked by twin basins and softened by warm timber detailing. It’s a space that feels both functional and quietly indulgent.

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open onto a private terrace with its own plunge pool. The suite comes into its own here. Whether it’s an early morning coffee watching the sun rise or a late afternoon dip with a drink in hand, the space invites you to slow down.

The soundtrack

The resort’s music-led identity is a defining element. In-room, this takes the form of curated playlists available via the TV or Soundcloud. Across the property, similar playlists provide the background to different settings, shifting from laid-back morning tones to more upbeat evening selections.

It’s a thoughtful touch, and the music itself is well chosen. But the broader “Beach Club” concept feels less defined. During our midweek stay, the atmosphere remained calm and low-key. While that may suit many guests, it doesn’t quite align with the more energetic, lifestyle-driven image that the branding suggests.

Food & drink

Dining is spread across several venues, each with its own character. Breakfast at Baba Soul Food, located in the Habita building, offers both à la carte options and a well-rounded buffet. All the expected Western staples are covered, but it’s the Asian offerings that stand out for me, from rice porridge with traditional accompaniments to freshly prepared noodles and Thai coconut pancakes. The space is light and open, with natural materials and soft tones creating an easy, unhurried atmosphere. It’s the kind of setting that encourages lingering rather than rushing.

For dinner, Baba Beach Bar & Restaurant provides a more varied menu. Wood-fired pizzas, grilled meats and Thai favourites sit side by side comfortably. Highlights included a well-executed Tom Yum Goong and a generously topped pizza, while a classic mango sticky rice rounded things off nicely.

Spa & wellness

The spa experience was a clear highlight. Cool Spa offers a range of treatments, and the 90-minute signature package delivered exactly what it promised. A full-body exfoliation followed by a deeply relaxing massage left a lasting impression. The therapist was skilled and attentive, striking the right balance between technique and intuition.

Elsewhere, facilities are well considered. The gym is modern and well-equipped, while the multiple pools ensure there’s always space to relax, even when the resort is busier.
